Changshu Wealthy Science and Technology, known in Chinese as Weiyi, develops, produces and sells sodium carboxymethyl cellulose. The business started in 1999 as Weiyi Chemical (Suzhou) with capacity of 3,000 tonnes a year. A plant on Shihu East Road was commissioned in three phases between 2001 and 2004, taking capacity to 10,000 tonnes. The Changshu company's first phase came on stream between 2010 and 2012 with three independent workshops each designed for close to 10,000 tonnes; a second phase of 30,000 tonnes began construction in 2016 and started up in 2021, bringing total capacity to nearly 60,000 tonnes a year.

The plant is at No. 8 Jiyu Road in the Changshu New Materials Industrial Park, one of the twenty largest chemical parks in China. It covers 64,000 square metres with five production workshops, DCS process control and a GMP packing workshop. Grades are supplied to food, household and personal care, pharmaceutical, battery, textile printing and dyeing, ceramics, paper and oilfield customers, and are sold internationally.

Certification covers ISO 9001, ISO 22000, ISO 14001, IATF 16949 for the automotive-linked battery business, Kosher and Halal, along with GMP certification, a SEDEX social compliance audit and a BRC grade A certificate. The company has been designated a national specialised and innovative little giant enterprise, a Jiangsu provincial specialised and innovative SME, a provincial key leading enterprise in agricultural industrialisation and a provincial enterprise technology centre.

Its wholly owned subsidiary Shanghai Jiaohang Trading, set up in 2015 near Hongqiao airport, handles import and export of food additives and other chemical additives.
