Dongguan Dongmei Food Co., Ltd. (东莞东美食品有限公司) makes modified starch at Gaobu Town in Dongguan, Guangdong Province. The company was incorporated in May 1983 and traces its operations to the Dongguan Starch Factory, established in 1952. It was the first Sino-foreign joint venture in China set up specifically to produce modified starch.
Production covers around thirteen types of modified food starch together with compound thickener blends. Annual output is reported at more than 80,000 tonnes. The starches are sold into food, pharmaceutical and textile applications among more than ten industries, and the company also provides application development work for customers.
Dongmei is recognised as a national high-tech enterprise and a Guangdong provincial technology-based private enterprise, holds a provincial famous trademark and hosts a provincial engineering centre and a municipal enterprise technology centre. It is certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 22000.
