Henan Yihengyuan Biotechnology makes tagatose, the rare sugar used as a reduced-calorie, low glycaemic sweetener, converting galactose to tagatose by its own route. It sells the ingredient in 25 kg sacks and also packs finished consumer formats, jars and stick packs, under contract for other brands.

The company started in September 2023 in the manufacturing development zone of Yancheng District, Luohe, Henan, with registered capital of 50 million yuan. It filed its 10,000 tonne a year tagatose project in September 2023, broke ground in March 2024, commissioned the plant that July, obtained its food production licence in September and reached a 3,000 tonne annual run rate by November 2024. It holds three invention patents on galactose to tagatose conversion and sixteen application patents, low GI product certification and BRCGS food safety certification, gained in 2025.
