Hubei Selenium Industrial Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd. is based at the enterprise service centre on Jinlong Avenue in Enshi, Hubei Province. Enshi prefecture holds unusually selenium-rich soils, and the institute's work is the development of selenium-enriched raw materials and the technology to produce them.

It runs three laboratories, covering selenium analysis and testing, selenium-enriched functional foods, and selenium biotechnology, and five pilot and production lines: selenium-enriched feed, selenoprotein and selenopeptide, selenium-enriched nutritional rice, microbial fermentation, and plant intermediate extraction. It holds a 50 mu germplasm collection and standardised demonstration base for plants classed in China as both food and medicine, and over 100 items of analytical equipment including gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, HPLC and atomic fluorescence speciation analysers.

The institute hosts a national and local joint engineering centre for selenium-enriched biological food development, the Hubei provincial engineering research centre for selenium application technology, and a postdoctoral research station. It supplies plant-extracted and water-soluble selenoprotein and selenium-enriched plant material, and provides cultivation and breeding methods for selenium-enriched crops.
