Huizhou Comvikin Biotechnology Co., Ltd. makes ascorbyl palmitate and little else. Its plant is east of Yuhe Road in the Huiyang Economic Development Zone at Huizhou, Guangdong. Stated capacity is about 1,200 tonnes a year, with around 50 tonnes normally held in stock.

The company synthesises ascorbyl palmitate enzymatically rather than by the conventional chemical route, on an ester enzymatic synthesis platform developed in-house. It holds 16 patents and more than 100 technical secrets covering the process, which it describes as zero discharge and free of process impurities. Food and cosmetic grades are supplied, packed in 25 kg drums, and the same material appears in the catalogue as vitamin C palmitate, L-ascorbic acid 6-hexadecanoate and 6-O-palmitoylascorbic acid.

End uses are as an oil-soluble antioxidant in edible oils and fats, processed meat, cereals and dairy, as a nutrient in milk powder and supplements, as a cosmetic raw material and as a pharmaceutical excipient. Comvikin is a national high-technology enterprise and has set up joint laboratories with Tsinghua University, Jiangnan University and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences for work on food antioxidants. Certification covers ISO 9001, ISO 22000, halal, kosher and RSPO.
