Hunan VegeGel Health Technology Co., Ltd. (湖南素囊健康科技有限公司) was established in 2017 and carries the plant capsule business of Hunan Er-Kang Pharmaceutical, a listed maker of pharmaceutical excipients. Its capsule plant is in the Liuyang national economic development zone near Changsha, Hunan Province.

The company makes capsule shells from starch rather than gelatin. The shell contains only starch, glycerin and purified water, with the starch modified from cassava. Raw material comes from the group's own starch processing base in Battambang Province, Cambodia, a site of about 400 hectares with capacity for 180,000 tonnes of tapioca starch and 40,000 tonnes of modified starch a year. VegeGel supplies that organic tapioca starch as an ingredient as well as converting it in house.

Product forms are soft capsules, hard capsules and gel candy, with three softgel lines and three hard capsule filling lines at the Chinese plant. Softgel fill weights run from 50 to 2,000 milligrams and hard capsules from 100 to 1,200 milligrams in sizes 00 to 4. The company also takes contract development and manufacturing work, including sports nutrition and special dietary products. It holds more than 70 patents on starch capsule technology, with grants in the United States, the European Union, Canada and Australia, and its certifications include US FDA registration, a drug master file, NSF cGMP, ISO 9001 and ISO 22000, Halal from IFANCA, KOF-K kosher, NSF non-GMO and Vegetarian Society approval.
