Jining Fortune Biotech makes sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and polyanionic cellulose. It grades the CMC by application, with separate food, pharmaceutical, toothpaste, ceramic, paint and lithium-ion battery types and a 3D printing grade sold as VoxelCel, each set to its own viscosity and degree of substitution. The food grade works as a thickener, stabiliser and suspending agent in drinks, dairy, ice cream and baked goods.

The plant is in the Zhanghuang town industrial park in Yutai County, Jining, in southwestern Shandong, and the company puts CMC capacity above 20,000 tonnes a year on automated lines. It takes on formulation work and OEM production under a customer's own label, and exhibits at trade fairs including CIBF in Shenzhen and Food Ingredients Vietnam.
