Seven Star Lemon Technology ferments citric acid and makes citrate salts from it. Two co-product streams come off the same plant and are sold rather than discarded: high protein feed recovered from the fermentation residue, and anaerobic granular sludge from its own effluent treatment, which other fermentation plants buy as seed biomass.

The company was established in January 2018 at Yishui County in Linyi, Shandong, with registered capital of 465 million yuan and a site of 883 mu, about 59 hectares. It employs more than 1,000 people, carries total investment of 3 billion yuan, and gives annual capacity as 450,000 tonnes of citric acid products. Yishui lies within road reach of Qingdao, Rizhao and Lianyungang ports, and export sales run through an affiliated trading arm, Hehong Trading (Shandong).
