Weifang Shengtai Medicine Co., Ltd.

Weifang Shengtai Medicine Co., Ltd. was registered in February 1999 and is the core operating company of the Shengtai group. It began by leasing the plant and equipment of the former Weifang No. 5 Pharmaceutical Factory and now occupies two sites in the Changle County economic development zone at Weifang, Shandong Province, covering more than 500 mu with about 200,000 square metres of buildings. It is a foreign-invested enterprise funded by Shengtai Holding Inc. of the United States, and listed on the American OTC market in May 2007 under the ticker SGTI.

The plant wet-mills corn and converts the starch downstream. Reported capacity is around 800,000 tonnes a year of starch products, 450,000 tonnes a year of glucose products and 5,000 tonnes a year of fermentation products. Output covers injectable-grade glucose, oral glucose, anhydrous glucose, dextrose monohydrate, glucose syrup, corn starch, dextrin, maltodextrin, modified starch and sodium gluconate, sold as both pharmaceutical excipients and food ingredients. Corn gluten meal and corn protein feed are recovered as co-products.

The company reports total assets of about 2 billion yuan and 760 employees, within a group of some ten subsidiaries with around 1,100 staff. It holds Chinese GMP certification, HACCP, ISO 9000 and the SC production licence, and exports to more than 70 countries and regions, partly through its Qingdao trading subsidiary. It states that its injectable glucose holds the largest share of the Chinese market.
