Weihai Puyuan Food Co., Ltd.

Weihai Puyuan Food Co., Ltd. is a seafood seasoning producer based at Liujiatai village in Wenquan town, Huancui District, Weihai, on the Shandong coast. It was set up in 2002 and moved through frozen aquatic processing into salted and fermented condiments before settling on seafood seasonings as its main line.

The plant runs a 35,000 tonne fish sauce fermentation base and a 2,000 tonne shrimp paste fermentation base, supported by cold storage of about ten thousand tonnes. Fermentation is carried out at low temperature, and the company has developed its own methods for clarification, deodorising, debittering and salt reduction. Besides fish sauce and shrimp paste it makes a fish-brewed soy sauce range.

Puyuan was one of the drafting units for the Chinese national standard for fish sauce and for the national technical specification covering fish sauce processing, and for the industry standard covering shrimp paste. It holds national high-technology enterprise status and national technology-based SME registration, and has been named a Shandong gazelle enterprise and a Shandong manufacturing single champion. In 2023 its site was recognised as a base for high-standard development of agricultural international trade.
