Yantai Taroke Bio-engineering Co., Ltd.

Yantai Taroke Bio-engineering Co., Ltd. was established in July 2007 and, after eighteen months of process design and equipment installation and commissioning, began commercial production in February 2009. It is a single-product business devoted to the research, manufacture and sale of L(+)-tartaric acid.

The plant is at No. 45 Jinyufeng Road, Douyu Industrial Park, Fushan district, Yantai, Shandong province, 40 kilometres from Yantai Penglai International Airport. The site covers about 18,000 square metres with 20,000 square metres of building area. The company reports more than 130 employees, of whom over 20 percent are senior engineers, engineers or hold master's degrees. Successive process upgrades have brought annual output of L(+)-tartaric acid to 10,000 tonnes.

Product quality is specified against the Chinese national standard GB 25545-2010 and against FCC VIII, USP 35, EP 8, BP 2015 and the Japanese food additive standards. The acid is sold into food, pharmaceutical and chemical uses, and is exported to the United States, Australia, Russia, India, Egypt, Japan and Singapore. The company notes that its coastal location and the density of the local chemical industry give it both shipping access and a nearby raw material supply.
