Quantum Hi-tech (Guangdong) Biological Co., Ltd.

Quantum Hi-Tech (Guangdong) Biological Co., Ltd. was founded in 2000 and produces prebiotic oligosaccharides at Jiangmen in Guangdong Province. It was among the first Chinese companies to commercialise fructo-oligosaccharides and is registered as a national high-tech enterprise. The company listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2010.

Fructo-oligosaccharides, sold under the Oligo brand, are made enzymatically from sucrose and remain the main product. A plant built from 2005 gave the site fructo-oligosaccharide capacity of about 15,000 tonnes a year. The company later added galacto-oligosaccharides, produced enzymatically from lactose, and has worked on soybean oligosaccharides and xylo-oligosaccharides. Both main products are sold as syrups and powders into infant formula, dairy, beverages, confectionery and supplements as dietary fibre and prebiotic ingredients. Quantum Hi-Tech took part in preparing the Chinese national reference material for fructo-oligosaccharides, signed in 2016.

In March 2022 Tate and Lyle agreed to buy the business from ChemPartner Pharmatech Co., Ltd. for 237 million US dollars, and the acquisition completed on 9 June 2022. The Jiangmen site now operates as Tate and Lyle's dietary fibre production base in China.
