Shandong Ensign Industry produces citric acid and industrial alcohol at No. 1567 Changsheng Street in Changle County, part of Weifang in Shandong. The site sits on the Jiaozhou to Jinan railway and the Jinan to Qingdao expressway, about one kilometre from a rail freight station and within reach of the ports of Qingdao and Yantai.

The citric acid range covers the monohydrate and anhydrous forms together with sodium citrate and other citrate salts, and reaches more than 130 countries and regions. Alcohol is made in premium and superior grades, mainly for the domestic market, with DDGS feed and carbon dioxide recovered from the same chain.

Ensign has built the plant around resource recovery, with a thermal energy workshop, an IC tower, DDGS feed production, reclaimed water reuse, waste heat power generation, carbon dioxide recovery, granular sludge and reuse of the gypsum left by citric acid production. It has been named a national manufacturing single champion, a national green factory and a national excellence-grade smart factory, and the light industry and biological fermentation associations have designated it a core enterprise of China's citric acid industrial base. Certification covers ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO22000, ISO45001, FSSC22000, BRC, GMP, kosher, halal, FAMI-QS, non-GMO identity preserved and advanced customs accreditation. The company runs a postdoctoral research station and an academician workstation.
