Shandong Fullsail Biotechnology makes polyols and starch sugars from maize. Crystalline and liquid maltitol is the lead product, alongside sorbitol and sorbitol solution, maltodextrin, fructooligosaccharides, isomaltooligosaccharide and L-lactic acid. Confectionery, bakery and sugar-free drinks are the main markets, where maltitol replaces sucrose at close to the same bulk and sweetness.

The company works at the Gaoqing economic development zone in Zibo, Shandong, on a site of more than 1,000 mu, about 67 hectares, with over 500 employees. It holds national high-tech enterprise status, sits on the standing council of the China Biotech Fermentation Industry Association, and ranks among the country's twenty largest starch sugar producers. Maltitol and L-lactic acid take up most of its capacity.
