Shandong Holy Leaf Biotechnology Co., Ltd., registered in Chinese as Shandong Tianzhi Lvye Biotechnology Co., Ltd., was founded in March 2010 and works in microbial fermentation and plant extraction. Its plant is in the Chenji industrial park in Dingtao District, Heze, Shandong Province, on a site of about 140 mu, roughly 93,000 square metres. The company reports registered capital of 10 million yuan and 31 technical staff, and is classified as a national high-tech enterprise.

The fermentation side of the business grows Schizochytrium and sells the resulting DHA algal oil, microencapsulated DHA algal oil powder, whole algal biomass and Schizochytrium meal. Other fermented products include sialic acid, also listed as N-acetylneuraminic acid, phosphatidylserine, beta-nicotinamide mononucleotide, gamma-aminobutyric acid, curdlan and gellan gum. A separate countercurrent continuous extraction line makes botanical extracts, among them ginkgo biloba, rhodiola rosea, grape seed, mulberry leaf and mulberry fruit, alongside yam powder.

The company runs automated fermentation and extraction workshops with in-house analytical laboratories, and its production is certified to ISO 22000 for food safety management. It maintains research links with Tsinghua University, Central South University, Jiangnan University, Shandong Agricultural University and the Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and has set up an expert committee drawing on more than 16 academic specialists. Its output is directed at pharmaceuticals, functional foods, health foods and foods for special medical purposes.
