Phosphatidylserine
Phosphatidylserine (PS, CAS 51446-62-9) is an anionic glycerophospholipid that carries a serine head group esterified to the phosphate of diacylglycerol.
It is concentrated on the inner leaflet of cell membranes, where it serves as a docking site for protein kinase C and other signalling proteins. In the brain, PS is among the most abundant phospholipids and supports neuronal membrane fluidity and neurotransmitter release.
We source bulk Phosphatidylserine from top China manufacturers for our partners, working with several of them. The manufacturers are in Guangdong, Shanghai and Shandong. For this ingredient the minimum order is 1 kg, and a smaller requirement can ship in a combined container with other ingredients.
Please send the grade you need, the volume and your destination port, and we will come back with a solution and a price.

Common Markets Grades
Phosphatidylserine sells as a concentrate in a phospholipid matrix rather than as the pure molecule.
The 20 percent and 50 percent PS grades are the standard formats for capsule, tablet, and softgel use. The 70 percent grade is produced for memory and cognitive products where label-claim mass matters.
Soy-derived PS was the original commercial source and remains the lowest-cost option, but soy-free positioning has driven a major shift to sunflower-lecithin-derived PS over the past decade. Both sources carry equivalent phospholipid content but differ in fatty acid composition and allergen labelling.
Branded grades include SerinAid from Chemi Nutra, Sharp-PS from Enzymotec (Frutarom), and several Chinese house brands. Cold-water-dispersible powder grades exist for ready-to-mix beverages.

- Pediatric cognitive supplements for attention support
- Senior nutrition products for age-related memory complaints
- Sports nutrition recovery formulas focused on overtraining and cortisol modulation
- Functional foods and beverages in markets where regulation permits
- Medical foods for mild cognitive impairment in select jurisdictions
- Veterinary cognitive support for senior dogs and cats
- Clinical-trial investigational products in cognitive aging research

How We Help Source Phosphatidylserine
Direct Factory Sourcing
We run the whole process: selecting the manufacturer from the top Chinese food ingredient producers, negotiating the price, verifying quality, and coordinating the logistics. You deal with us instead of with several factories at once.
Original Packaging and Documents from the Manufacturer
The manufacturer sends your Phosphatidylserine out of its own factory in the original packing, through to your destination port. The COA, COO, MSDS, TDS and any certifications reach you from the manufacturer as well.
Free Samples and Lead Time
We send 100 to 500 g free for your own laboratory to test and you cover only the courier, usually within 2 to 3 working days. ETD is usually within 7 to 15 days once the order is confirmed, and we check that date against the factory's own manufacturing schedule before we give it to you.
Combined Shipment
We can load Phosphatidylserine together with other ingredients such as Arachidonic Acid, Coenzyme Q10 and Chondroitin Sulphate Sodium into one 20' FCL. If your quantity is small, we can also ship LCL.
Regulatory Status
Phosphatidylserine is permitted in the major supplement markets.
In the United States it is a lawful dietary supplement ingredient under DSHEA, with FDA-acknowledged qualified health claims for reduced risk of cognitive dysfunction and dementia in the elderly, subject to the standard qualifying-language requirements. In Canada it is a Natural Health Product with permitted dose ranges and approved claims for memory support.
In the European Union it is a permitted food supplement ingredient, although health claims under Regulation (EC) 1924/2006 have not been authorised. Japan permits PS in foods with function claims under specific notification routes.
Bovine-cortex PS, the original source used in early Italian clinical trials, was withdrawn from the market in the 1990s on prion-risk grounds. All current commercial material is plant-derived and produced enzymatically.
Manufacturing Process
Industrial phosphatidylserine is produced by enzymatic head-group exchange from phosphatidylcholine.
The starting lecithin, from soy or sunflower seed, is fractionated and enriched to a high phosphatidylcholine content. It is then reacted with L-serine in the presence of phospholipase D from Streptomyces species under controlled biphasic conditions, which swaps the choline head group for serine and yields phosphatidylserine directly.
The crude reaction mass is washed, the residual choline and excess serine are removed, and the product is dried and standardised to the target PS concentration on a phospholipid carrier. Modern processes use immobilized phospholipase D for higher yield and easier downstream separation.
Production capacity is concentrated in Israel, the United States, and several Chinese sites. The shift from soy to sunflower lecithin has expanded the supply base over the past ten years and reduced reliance on soy feedstock.
