Shanghai Huamao Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. was founded in 1996 and is registered at 789 Shennan Road in the Minhang District of Shanghai. It began as a producer of pharmaceutical lactose and dextran, and now describes its work as the application of synthetic biology to pharmaceutical raw materials.

Output is organised in three groups. The active pharmaceutical ingredients are dextran and icodextrin. The excipient line is lactose monohydrate. The bioactives line covers salidroside and hydroxytyrosol, and the company also supplies polysaccharide-derived materials including hydrolysed sodium hyaluronate and low molecular weight poly-gamma-glutamic acid. It has built a production base in the Xinzhuang industrial zone in Shanghai and runs its own research platform alongside manufacturing.
