Tianjin Northfood makes sodium saccharin and sodium cyclamate, along with cyclohexylamine, anthranilic acid and OZB, which come off the same chemistry. Its saccharin goes into food and drink and also into electroplating, pharmaceuticals, agrochemical intermediates and household chemicals.

The company began in 1965 as the state-owned Tianjin Saccharin Factory and now sits within Tianjin Bohai Light Industry Investment Group, with registered capital of 253 million yuan and a 40,000 square metre site in the Jinnan development zone. It is one of four saccharin producers designated nationally by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Its Weixing brand saccharin and Beifang Weixing cyclamate sell across China and export to Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, Argentina, Brazil and South Africa, and it names Colgate, Procter and Gamble and Unilever among its customers.
