Wuwei Gaoyuan Biological Products makes casein from fresh milk, in edible and fresh-milk grades, along with butter and flavoured solid drink powders. Casein and its salts are used as protein ingredients in nutrition products, processed cheese, bakery goods and confectionery, and as binders in prepared meat.

The company was founded in November 2003 and built a new plant in the Wunan industrial park in August 2015 for more than 60 million yuan, on a site of 12,540 square metres. Its automated line takes 500 tonnes of fresh milk a day and is rated at 3,500 tonnes of casein and 4,000 tonnes of butter a year. It is the only producer in Gansu working from fresh milk through to casein products, and it draws its milk from the surrounding Hexi corridor dairy area.
