Zhaoqing Perfumery Co., Ltd.

Zhaoqing Perfumery Co., Ltd. makes ethyl maltol and maltol at Lingshan, Lantang, in the eastern outskirts of Zhaoqing, Guangdong. In 1983 it became the first plant in China to produce ethyl maltol by a fully synthetic route, ending the country's reliance on imports of the ingredient. Output is sold under the Xinghu brand and made to FCC specifications; a certificate confirming production to the international FCC standard was issued by the State Bureau of Technical Supervision in 1992.

Capacity has been built up towards 3,000 tonnes a year of ethyl maltol and 500 tonnes a year of maltol. The company has been designated a high and new technology enterprise continuously since 1994. It was the first in its sector nationally to obtain ISO 9002 certification, in 1997, and has since added ISO 14001 and ISO 22000. Kosher certification followed in 1999 and MUI halal certification in 2016.

Xinghu ethyl maltol was named a Guangdong famous brand product in 2007, and the Xinghu mark has been recognised as a Guangdong well-known trademark since 2005. In 2007 the company became a wholly owned subsidiary of Huabao International, listed in Hong Kong.
