Zhengzhou Opal Biotech Limited, trading as Opal Biogums, works from No. 1336 Hanghai East Road, Zhengzhou 450016, in Henan. The company started as a gellan gum factory and now describes itself as a distributor across the hydrocolloid range while producing its own stabiliser, thickener and ice cream stabilising systems.

The catalogue covers high acyl and low acyl gellan gum, curdlan, welan gum, diutan gum, sanzan gum, xanthan gum, agar, carrageenan, konjac gum, pectin, gelatin, transglutaminase, CMC and sodium alginate. Stated annual capacity is 1,500 tonnes of gellan gum and 1,000 tonnes of curdlan. Applications run across food and beverage, plant based meat, plant based capsules, cosmetics, household chemicals, microbiology media, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and oilfield drilling.

Products are certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 22000, FSSC 22000 and HACCP, with kosher and MUI halal approval. Gellan gum and curdlan are sold into more than thirty countries, among them the United States, Canada, Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany, Korea, Japan, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Ukraine, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Indonesia, Honduras and Colombia.
