Jiangsu Benefit Ocean Technology Co., Ltd. makes seaweed hydrocolloids at No. 36 Hong Kong Road in the Ganyu Economic Development Zone of Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province. It began producing industrial grade sodium alginate in 2005, added a food grade sodium alginate line in 2017 and started making kappa carrageenan in 2024.

The site covers about 105,000 square metres and employs more than 400 people. Annual output runs at 3,000 to 3,500 tonnes of sodium alginate and a further 3,000 to 3,500 tonnes of kappa carrageenan. The sodium alginate is sold for use as a thickener, gelling agent, emulsifier and stabiliser in sausage, cheese, ice cream, jelly, fermented milk drinks, seasonings, instant noodles and beer. The carrageenan is sold mainly as a gelling agent, including as a substitute for agar, gelatin and pectin.

More than 90 percent of production is exported, with Europe, the Americas and Southeast Asia named as the main destinations. The company also trades under the domain jsboc.com.
