Suizhou Shilida Biotechnology develops and makes carotenoid products and is registered as a high-tech enterprise. It describes itself as one of the earliest Chinese producers to use biological fermentation for beta-carotene, and the first in its sector to obtain ISO 9001 certification. Four product families are made at scale in a range of strengths: beta-carotene, including a fermentation-derived grade, natural carotene, lutein and lycopene. All are supplied as colouring foodstuffs and nutritional additives.

The plant is in the Liushutang industrial park in the southern suburbs of Zengdu district, Suizhou, Hubei. The company's technical focus is microemulsion and microencapsulation, which it has worked on since it started trading more than ten years ago and which it credits for the stability of its preparations against acid, heat, light, oxygen and salt. Raw materials are agricultural, and production is run to GMP requirements.

A further RMB 20 million was invested in 2017 to expand carotenoid research and production. The company holds Halal and Kosher certificates for its products.
