VTR Biotech

VTR Biotech was founded in 1991 and is headquartered in Zhuhai, Guangdong province. Its business is split into three segments: enzyme preparations, biosynthesis products and plant extracts. Food enzymes in the range include beta-amylase, glucose oxidase and phospholipase, alongside feed enzymes such as phytase, protease and beta-mannanase.

The company completed its first production base in Zhuhai in 1997 and set up Inner Mongolia VTR Biotech in 2008. It listed in 2014, which it describes as the first listing by a Chinese enzyme preparation company. A postdoctoral research station was approved in 2015, the year it acquired Hunan Hongying and moved into food, energy and textile applications. In 2016 the Zhuhai headquarters and R&D centre were rebuilt. In 2018 it acquired Changsha World-Way, entering plant extracts, and established a German subsidiary. A restructuring in 2022 set the current three-segment shape and added an Australian subsidiary.

The company reports more than 1,100 employees across 19 subsidiaries and customers in over 60 countries. Its next-generation feed phytase has been approved by the European Commission for the EU market. Its European subsidiary, Vnzymes, opened an office in Frankfurt, and a bakery enzyme brand, VTR&beyond, was launched from Zhuhai in 2026.
