Xi'an Healthful Biotechnology Co., Ltd., which trades as HSF, started in natural vitamin E, phytosterols and microencapsulated powders and has since added a fermentation range sold under the FERMTEK name. Its stated technical base combines oil refining, molecular distillation, microencapsulation of functional actives, engineered bacterial fermentation, and separation and purification.

The current catalogue covers natural vitamin E, plant sterols and sterol esters, functional oil and functional powder microencapsulation, natural flavours, natural pigments including beta carotene, and the fermentation series. Products go into edible oils, pharmaceuticals, health foods, dairy, dietary supplements, personal care and animal nutrition. Related items in the range include MCT, vitamin D3 oil and omega-3 powders.

From 2014 the company operated natural vitamin E phase I, phytosterol and ester, microencapsulation and microbial fermentation phase I lines in workshops C1 to C5 in the Torch industrial zone on Chengnan Road at Yangling, Shaanxi. Since 2019 a new industrial park has been under construction with investment stated at more than USD 40 million, covering 47,000 square metres and adding four lines: solid microencapsulation by granulating and coating, natural ferulic acid, natural vitamin E phase II and microbial fermentation phase II. The R&D group numbers more than 40 people trained in food engineering and bioengineering, and a research and biosynthesis innovation centre is located in Xi'an.
