Bioneutra Fofiber Biological & Science (Guangzhou) Co., Ltd.

The company behind the Fofiber brand is Guangzhou Huahui Biological Industrial, whose predecessor was the fine chemicals plant of South China University of Technology, established in 1985. The present company was registered in the Nansha free trade area in 2007 with capital of 16.7 million yuan, and its shareholders include the South China University of Technology Science Park and Guangdong Yuekai Financial Group. It was recognised as a high-tech enterprise in 2012.

Products are oligosaccharides and dietary fibres: VitaFiber isomalto-oligosaccharide, fructo-oligosaccharide, resistant dextrin, polydextrose, alpha-glucan, sodium octenyl succinate starch and soluble soybean polysaccharide. They are used in baking, confectionery, ice cream, chocolate, energy bars, meal replacements and seafood products. Dedicated VitaFiber and soybean polysaccharide lines have been built in Guangdong and Shandong, with output of roughly ten thousand tonnes a year.

The original workshop was in the Meishan industrial area of Nansha. In 2015 the company acquired more than 20,000 square metres at the Hengli industrial park in Nansha for a headquarters and production and research centre; a first phase of about 15,000 square metres of workshop and 4,000 square metres of offices began construction in 2019 and is now in production, with full capacity given as 30,000 tonnes a year.

Staff number 33, of whom 37 percent are research personnel, including four professors and doctoral supervisors. The company helped draft the Chinese industry standard for soluble soybean polysaccharide, the group standard for resistant dextrin and the national food safety standard for sodium octenyl succinate starch, and holds five Chinese invention patents plus four in the United States and Canada. Certification covers FSSC 22000, ISO, HACCP, GMP, Kosher and Halal, and the VitaFiber products hold a US FDA certificate.
