Resistant Dextrin

Resistant Dextrin is a soluble fibre produced from wheat or corn starch through controlled pyrolysis in the presence of acid catalysts.

It is structurally similar to resistant maltodextrin but with a process emphasis on the pyrodextrin step and without a required enzymatic polishing step. The result is a glucose polymer rich in non-digestible α-1,2 and β-linkages.

The powder is white, freely soluble, low in viscosity, and almost flavour-neutral, which makes it the standard soluble fibre in clear beverages and low-calorie functional products.

We source bulk Resistant Dextrin from top China manufacturers for our partners, working with several of them. The manufacturers are mostly in Shandong, Guangdong and Inner Mongolia. For this ingredient the minimum order is 1,000 kg and a 20-foot container takes 18 MT, and a smaller requirement can ship in a combined container with other ingredients.

Please send the grade you need, the volume and your destination port, and we will come back with a solution and a price.

Common Markets Grades

Resistant Dextrin is graded by fibre assay and source starch.

Wheat-source resistant dextrin (the classical Nutriose family from Roquette) declares 85 percent fibre on dry basis with a creamy white colour.

Corn-source resistant dextrin offers an alternative for gluten-free positioning, with comparable fibre assay.

Both powder and 70 percent liquid formats are produced.

Specialty low-colour and low-bitterness grades are produced for beverage and clinical nutrition use.

Applications

  • Fibre enrichment in still and carbonated beverages
  • Sugar reduction in dairy drinks, flavoured milks, and yogurts
  • Soluble fibre in cereal bars, biscuits, and bakery items
  • Digestive health positioning in fibre sticks and shot drinks
  • Bulk and fibre in confectionery, gummies, and chocolate
  • Carrier in dietary supplements and protein powder blends
  • Texture and fibre in soups, sauces, and culinary creams
  • Fibre in instant beverage premixes such as coffee whiteners
  • Functional fibre in infant cereals and follow-on products
  • Prebiotic substrate in probiotic synbiotic formulations
  • Calorie-reduced syrup base for tabletop and pancake products

Brands Using Resistant Dextrin

Widely-distributed consumer products that list Resistant Dextrin on the ingredient label.

Brand names, product names and logos are the property of their owners. They appear here as published evidence that the ingredient is used, taken from the brand's own label or website. Their appearance is not an endorsement, and it does not mean the brand buys from us or from any manufacturer listed on this site.

How We Help Source Resistant Dextrin

  • Direct Factory Sourcing

We run the whole process: selecting the manufacturer from the top Chinese food ingredient producers, negotiating the price, verifying quality, and coordinating the logistics. You deal with us instead of with several factories at once.

  • Original Packaging and Documents from the Manufacturer

The manufacturer sends your Resistant Dextrin out of its own factory in the original packing, through to your destination port. The COA, COO, MSDS, TDS and any certifications reach you from the manufacturer as well.

  • Free Samples and Lead Time

We send 100 to 500 g free for your own laboratory to test and you cover only the courier, usually within 2 to 3 working days. ETD is usually within 7 to 15 days once the order is confirmed, and we check that date against the factory's own manufacturing schedule before we give it to you.

  • Combined Shipment

We can load Resistant Dextrin together with other ingredients such as Fructooligosaccharides, Dextrose and Dextrose Monohydrate into one 20' FCL. If your quantity is small, we can also ship LCL.

Regulatory Status

Resistant Dextrin is recognised as a dietary fibre by the U.S. FDA under the 2018 fibre list.

EFSA has accepted health claims for the wheat-source Nutriose product on reduced post-prandial blood glucose response when it replaces digestible carbohydrate.

The Codex Alimentarius definition of dietary fibre covers resistant dextrin because it is non-digestible and has a physiological effect.

Kosher, Halal, non-GMO, and gluten-free (corn version) certifications are widely held.

Manufacturing Process

Resistant Dextrin is produced through dextrinization of food starch.

Cleaned starch is mixed with a small amount of hydrochloric or citric acid catalyst, then heated under low moisture in a continuous dextrinizer. Temperature, residence time, and acid concentration determine the extent of non-digestible bond formation.

The hot pyrodextrin is dissolved in water, neutralised, and treated with carbon for colour removal and ion-exchange resin for desalting.

An optional α-amylase pass cleaves the remaining digestible chains and is followed by chromatographic separation to concentrate the resistant fraction.

The purified solution is spray-dried into a free-flowing powder.
