Henan Jindan Lactic Acid Technology Co., Ltd. produces L-lactic acid by microbial fermentation. Its head office and works are at No. 8 Jindan Avenue in Dancheng County, Henan, in the maize belt of the Huang-Huai-Hai plain, and it also keeps an office in Zhengzhou and one in Chuo-ku, Tokyo.

The company describes more than thirty years of work on lactic acid, and its range covers lactic acid, lactate salts, esters and blends sold into food, pharmaceuticals, feed, industrial uses and biodegradable plastics. It has developed its own strain-breeding system along with preparation and purification processes, and holds 28 invention patents. Technical platforms include a nationally recognised enterprise technology centre, a national postdoctoral research station, a CNAS-accredited laboratory, a national and local joint engineering laboratory, a Henan academician workstation for lactic acid biomaterials and provincial engineering research centres for lactic acid and for starch biomass chemical engineering. Work on the industrialisation of L-lactic acid won a second prize in the National Science and Technology Progress Awards.

Jindan has moved downstream into polylactic acid using its own lactic acid as feedstock, and has begun the third phase of its Dancheng County project, a plant for 60,000 tonnes a year of biodegradable polyester and finished products. The company is a vice-chairman unit of the China Biotech Fermentation Industry Association and a director unit of the China Food Additives and Ingredients Association. Its trademark was recognised as a well-known trademark in China in 2009, it won the Henan governor's quality award in 2011, and it publishes investor relations and stock information.
