Hubei Xinhe Biological Technology Co., Ltd. has worked on microbial fermentation of polyunsaturated fatty acids since 2011. Its plant is at No. 19 Shutai Street in the Yangtze River Industrial Park at Xianning, Hubei.

The company first developed a physical separation and distillation route to solvent-free DHA algal oil, produced from a strain of Schizochytrium selected from marine sources, then added arachidonic acid oil fermented with Mortierella alpina. The current range covers DHA algal oil under the Vegalgal name at 35, 40, 50 and 55 percent, organic DHA algal oil and organic algal oil powder under the Vegalgae name, Sn-2 DHA algal oil, DHA algal oil powder, ARA oil and ARA powder, beta-carotene powder, Schizochytrium powder, vegan DHA and EPA soft capsules and functional oil powders. A parallel animal nutrition range serves ruminants, aquaculture, pigs and pets. The company states that it was the first to develop DHA and ARA microcapsule powders embedded with goat milk, and it has been named a model factory for auxiliary ingredients in formula milk powder processing.

The Xianning polyunsaturated fatty acid research and application engineering technology research centre was established at the company on 2 November 2013, and a further research centre built jointly with a university and an industry association followed in 2014. Certification covers ISO 9001:2015, ISO 22000:2018, FSSC 22000, halal, kosher, FAMI-QS and USDA Organic. Products are sold in Europe, North America, Australia, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
