Synbiotech Biotechnology (Yangzhou) is the mainland Chinese plant of SYNBIO TECH INC., a lactic acid bacteria specialist founded in 2000 and based at 66 Beiling 6th Road, Luzhu district, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The Yangzhou works were opened to expand production for the Chinese market, and a second phase was later added together with a research centre for the microbiome and lactic acid bacteria applications.

The business covers strain screening, functional validation, fermentation and downstream processing of probiotic powders, and OEM and ODM finished products. A culture collection was set up at founding, gathering lactic acid bacteria from around the world for identification and for optimisation of their production and storage behaviour. Proprietary process and packaging systems are named SYNTEK and SYNPACK, and patented strains include LP28 and TWK10. The company developed AB-Kefir, a co-fermented kefir-derived live culture, and supplies postbiotic and fermented products of the kind listed here.

Production lines are certified to ISO 22000, HACCP, Halal and NSF GMP, with TUV supplier verification and ISO 9001 in place, and the group has completed ISO 14064-1 greenhouse gas verification. It was the first company in Taiwan to obtain GMP certification for functional lactic acid bacteria products, holds a Dun and Bradstreet registration, and is a member of the International Probiotics Association. An overseas business division and a strain research institute were established as the company expanded beyond its home market.
