D-Limonene
D-Limonene is a colourless mobile liquid with a fresh, bright orange-peel aroma and the chemical signature of the citrus family.
It is the R-(+) enantiomer of limonene, a monocyclic monoterpene with the molecular formula C₁₀H₁₆. Registered under CAS 5989-27-5, it accounts for more than 90 percent of the volatile fraction of cold-pressed orange peel oil and is the most produced single terpene in the world.
We source bulk D-Limonene from top China manufacturers for our partners. The manufacturer is in Guangdong. A smaller requirement can ship in a combined container with other ingredients.
Please send the grade you need, the volume and your destination port, and we will come back with a solution and a price.

Common Markets Grades
A wide spread of D-Limonene grades follows purity and source.
Technical grade at 90 to 95 percent assay covers industrial cleaning, degreasing, paint and coating manufacture, and adhesive removal. It is typically derived from the heavy ends of orange-peel oil deterpenation.
Food grade at 95 to 97 percent purity is produced with FCC and FEMA documentation for flavour application in beverages, confectionery, bakery, and savory systems.
FCC ultra-pure at 98 to 99 percent assay is produced for fine-flavour work and for premium beverage compounding, with peroxide value held tightly to preserve fresh-citrus character.
Cosmetic grade at 97 percent minimum is produced with low peroxide value and antioxidant stabilisation (typically tocopherol or BHT-free alternatives) for perfumery and personal care.
Pharmaceutical grade meeting USP and Ph. Eur. monographs is produced for use as an excipient, taste-masking agent, and active ingredient in dissolution preparations.

How We Help Source D-Limonene
Direct Factory Sourcing
We run the whole process: selecting the manufacturer from the top Chinese food ingredient producers, negotiating the price, verifying quality, and coordinating the logistics. You deal with us instead of with several factories at once.
Original Packaging and Documents from the Manufacturer
The manufacturer sends your D-Limonene out of its own factory in the original packing, through to your destination port. The COA, COO, MSDS, TDS and any certifications reach you from the manufacturer as well.
Free Samples and Lead Time
We send 100 to 500 g free for your own laboratory to test and you cover only the courier, usually within 2 to 3 working days. ETD is usually within 7 to 15 days once the order is confirmed, and we check that date against the factory's own manufacturing schedule before we give it to you.
Combined Shipment
We can load D-Limonene together with other ingredients such as Capsicum Oleoresin, Ethyl Maltol and White Pepper into one 20' FCL. If your quantity is small, we can also ship LCL.
Regulatory Status
D-Limonene holds FEMA GRAS status under FEMA 2633 for use as a flavouring substance in food and beverage applications.
The U.S. FDA lists it as GRAS under 21 CFR 182.60 as a synthetic flavouring substance and adjuvant. JECFA has evaluated it and assigned an ADI not specified for flavour use at typical levels.
The European Union recognises it as a flavouring substance under Regulation (EC) No 1334/2008 with FL number 01.045, and it is a declared fragrance allergen above the standard thresholds in cosmetics.
USP and Ph. Eur. monographs cover the pharmaceutical grade. The substance is REACH-registered at high tonnage and is listed on TSCA, DSL, AICS, IECSC, KECL, and PICCS.
EPA registration covers its use as an active ingredient in biopesticide and insect-repellent formulations.
Manufacturing Process
The dominant commercial source is cold-pressed citrus peel oil, recovered as a by-product of the orange-juice industry in Brazil, Florida, Mexico, and the Mediterranean basin.
Whole oranges pass through screw presses or rotary scarifiers that rupture the peel oil glands. The oil-water emulsion is then centrifuged to recover crude cold-pressed orange oil, which is approximately 95 percent d-limonene.
To isolate purified d-limonene, the crude oil is fractionally distilled under reduced pressure. The terpene fraction comes off as the bulk distillate, while oxygenated flavour compounds (citral, decanal, valencene) remain in the residue and are produced separately as folded oils or flavour concentrates.
Further polishing on packed columns or thin-film evaporators delivers food-grade and FCC-grade material with peroxide value, acid value, and optical rotation held within tight specification.
A minor secondary source is mandarin and grapefruit peel oil. Synthetic limonene is not commercially significant given the abundance of natural supply.
