Changzhou Kansenbio Technology Co., Ltd. trades under the KansenBio brand, which belongs to Beijing Green Kangcheng Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (北京绿色康成生物技术有限公司). KansenBio was founded in July 2022 as a spin-off from Tsinghua University and has its registered office in the Future Science City at Beiqijia, Changping District, Beijing. Its founder and chief scientist, Chen Zhen, is a tenured associate professor at Tsinghua University.

The company makes ingredients by microbial fermentation rather than chemical synthesis, using food-grade glucose and sucrose, lignocellulose and non-grain starch as feedstocks. Its process platform combines strain engineering with integrated fermentation and separation scale-up. The catalogue covers N-acetylneuraminic acid (sialic acid), 3'-sialyllactose and 6'-sialyllactose sodium salts, ergothioneine, L-carnosine and decarboxy carnosine, L-histidine, ectoine, hydroxytyrosol, hyaluronic acid and bio-based R-1,3-butanediol. Output goes into cosmetics, food and pharmaceutical, biodegradable materials and animal nutrition applications.

Manufacturing is carried out in a GMP-compliant facility with a class 100,000 cleanroom. The company reports 28 patents and holds COSMOS certification.
