Zhejiang Dongcheng Biotechnology Co., Ltd.

Zhejiang Dongcheng Biotechnology Co., Ltd. develops and manufactures yeast derived products from a head office in Deqing County, Zhejiang. Its range covers dried yeast used as a pharmaceutical raw material, yeast powder for fermentation, yeast extract and yeast paste, yeast hydrolysate, brewer's yeast cell wall and selenium yeast, sold into pharmaceuticals, industrial fermentation, savoury flavouring and animal nutrition.

The business began in 1996, when the yeast plant of Zhejiang Dongli Industrial Corporation was restructured as Zhejiang Deqing Dongli Biological Development Co., Ltd. Yeast extract development started in 1999. In 2003 chairman Yan Agen acquired the whole of the equity, taking the company out of collective ownership. A pharmaceutical production licence and GMP certification for dried yeast followed in 2005, and the company was renamed Zhejiang Deqing Dongcheng Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. Brewer's yeast deep processing products were added in 2009 and animal nutrition products in 2014, when yeast extract capacity was rebuilt to 5,000 tonnes a year. The 2015 acquisition of Yunnan Zhongzhe Dongcheng Biotechnology took total yeast capacity to 10,000 tonnes a year.

A long term supply agreement with Anheuser-Busch InBev was signed in 2016. The company converted to joint stock form under its present name in 2017 and was recognised as a national high technology enterprise. It holds ISO 9001, ISO 14000, GMP, halal and kosher certification.
