Guangzhou Shuangqiao Company Ltd.

Guangzhou Shuangqiao Company Ltd. was formed in 1999 when the Guangzhou Monosodium Glutamate Food Factory, the first enterprise in China's food industry to hold national first-class status, was restructured into a joint stock company. It is based on Nanji Road in the Haizhu district of Guangzhou.

Its starch sweetener business runs on corn starch. Products include high-purity crystalline fructose at F80 to F95, high fructose corn syrup at F42, F55 and F60, glucose syrup, brewing syrup, maltose and isomaltooligosaccharide, together with newer sucrose, rock sugar and golden syrups. These go into soft drinks, beer, confectionery, chewing gum, jams, jellies, biscuits and ice cream. The company also retains its seasoning business, where Shuangqiao monosodium glutamate has twice been named a China Famous Brand product and won a national gold quality award, and has since added chicken powder, chicken essence, pepper powder, potato and rice flours and cooking sauces.

The group has expanded through subsidiaries in Xiamen, Hubei, Chongqing, Guangzhou and Jiaxing, and through Guangzhou Orsan Monosodium Glutamate Food Co., Ltd., a joint venture with Orsan of France. Its research platforms include a Guangdong enterprise technology centre, a provincial engineering research centre for oligosaccharides and amino acids, and a joint oligosaccharide research base with the South China University of Technology.

Shuangqiao holds halal and kosher certification and is certified to ISO 9001 and FSSC 22000. It has been a principal drafting body for Chinese national or industry standards covering glucose syrup, high fructose corn syrup, maltose, maltodextrin, crystalline fructose, starch sugar classification, brewing syrup, isomaltooligosaccharide and monosodium glutamate quality, and is ranked among the country's twenty largest starch sugar producers.
