Hubei Baitewei Biotechnology makes casein derivatives from milk. Sodium caseinate is the core product, an emulsifier and whipping and thickening agent used in meat, dairy, bakery and drinks, and the company extends the same chemistry into calcium caseinate, rennet casein and casein phosphopeptides. Lactose, cream, whey protein and plant proteins fill out what it sells.

The plant stands in the food industry park of the high-tech development zone at Xiantao, on the Jianghan plain in Hubei, about 60 kilometres from Wuhan, on a site of 80 mu with 6,500 square metres of building. Its process work comes from a research group drawn from the Institute of Process Engineering at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a biomass chemistry group at Tianjin University of Science and Technology. The company holds one invention patent and 24 utility models and is certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 22000.
