Qingdao Borong Biotechnology extracts carotenoids, with marigold as its core crop. Lutein, zeaxanthin, lutein ester and marigold oleoresin are the main lines, each offered as powder, microencapsulated powder, beadlets or suspended oil. The wider catalogue takes in astaxanthin, beta carotene, lycopene, paprika and capsicum oleoresin and ecdysterone, sorted on its site by eye health, natural colour, anti-ageing, liver, immune and cardiovascular use.
Borong entered marigold growing and raw material sales in 2010, then moved downstream in 2017 by setting up Qingdao Jiayi Biotechnology to run extraction. Gansu Nuanshan Agricultural Science and Technology followed in 2020 with a 360,000 square foot base covering cultivation, flower collection and extraction; a Yunnan planting arm arrived in 2023 and a US subsidiary and warehouse in 2024.
