WuHan HuaSweet Co., Ltd.

Wuhan HuaSweet Co., Ltd. is a national high-tech enterprise working on high-intensity sweeteners and finished sweetness systems. It was the principal drafting body for the Chinese national food safety standards covering neotame, advantame and thaumatin, and states that it is the only Chinese company to have taken on all three, and that it holds 27 sugar-substitute patents.

The company occupies 160 mu in total across two sites: a base at Gedian, in a national biomedical park, and a base at Huanggang, in a provincial chemical park. A new Huanggang plant with 8,000 tonnes of capacity for high-end sweeteners and raw materials was completed in 2023. Stated annual capacities are 2,000 tonnes of neotame, 10 tonnes of advantame, 500 tonnes of steviol glycoside Reb M and M2, 50 tonnes of mogrosides, 10 tonnes each of thaumatin and brazzein, 200 tonnes of the licorice series, 200 tonnes of neohesperidin dihydrochalcone, 500 tonnes of glucosyl steviol glycosides, 5,000 tonnes of compounded sweetness solutions and 4,000 tonnes of the Okalvia natural zero-calorie sugar.

Production draws on chemical synthesis, plant extraction and biosynthesis. The company became a qualified neotame supplier to the United States Pharmacopeial Convention in 2024, and in 2025 became the first Chinese producer approved for pharmaceutical-grade neotame. It is a national specialised little giant enterprise and holds a Hubei provincial enterprise technology centre.
