Zhejiang Binmei Biotechnology Co., Ltd. was established in 2013 at Toumen Port in Linhai, Zhejiang, and makes natural colours for food, beverage and nutrition manufacturers. Its first product was a spirulina extract giving a blue shade, obtained by physical extraction rather than solvent processing, and the company holds patents covering it.

The range is organised by colour family. Blue shades come from spirulina extract, in powder and liquid form, and butterfly pea flower extract. Red, pink and purple shades come from aronia berry extract powder, rose liquid extract and hibiscus. Yellow shades come from safflower yellow and sea buckthorn extract, green from spirulina powder, and black from cuttlefish ink extract.

Production capacity is stated at 200 tonnes a year across the natural pigment range, and the company says it applies no minimum order quantity. Products meet FSSC 22000, hold FDA, halal, kosher and organic certification, and have been shipped to customers in more than 60 countries over the company's first decade.
