Cinnamyl Cinnamate
Cinnamyl Cinnamate is a sweet, balsamic, floral ester that forms pale-yellow to off-white crystals with a soft styrax-like aroma.
The molecule has the formula C₁₈H₁₆O₂ and is the principal aromatic body of styrax and Peru balsam, where it acts as both the dominant odorant and a natural fixative for the lighter floral components.
We source bulk Cinnamyl Cinnamate from top China manufacturers for our partners. The manufacturer is in Hubei. A smaller requirement can ship in a combined container with other ingredients.
Please send the grade you need, the volume and your destination port, and we will come back with a solution and a price.

Common Markets Grades
Flakes, prills and warmed melt are the three physical forms of Cinnamyl Cinnamate.
The standard fragrance grade is 95 to 98 percent assay (FEMA 2298) with residual cinnamyl alcohol and cinnamic acid disclosed on the certificate of analysis.
A high-purity perfumery grade at 99 percent is produced for fine fragrance and luxury candle work where any free acid would dull the floral lift.
A natural grade isolated by repeated crystallisation from styrax balsam is produced separately for clean-label flavour and natural-perfumery applications.
Technical-grade material at 90 to 93 percent serves as a cost-efficient fixative for soap, detergent, and household-scenting compounds.
Applications
- Fixative in fine fragrance compositions, especially oriental, ambery, and balsamic-floral accords
- Reconstitution of styrax, Peru balsam, and benzoin notes in natural perfumery
- Functional fragrance for soaps, detergents, fabric softeners, and candles where tenacity is critical
- Sweet-floral and honey-style flavour work at very low dosage in baked goods and confectionery
- Powder and skin-scent accords in body lotions, talcum, and after-bath products
- Incense and resin-based ritual blends as a base-note carrier
- Anchoring component in hyacinth, lilac, and tuberose floral reconstructions
- Component of leather, tobacco, and amber accords
- Sun-care and skincare fragrances where heat stability is required
- Modifier for vanillin and coumarin in gourmand and tonka-style compositions

How We Help Source Cinnamyl Cinnamate
Direct Factory Sourcing
We run the whole process: selecting the manufacturer from the top Chinese food ingredient producers, negotiating the price, verifying quality, and coordinating the logistics. You deal with us instead of with several factories at once.
Original Packaging and Documents from the Manufacturer
The manufacturer sends your Cinnamyl Cinnamate out of its own factory in the original packing, through to your destination port. The COA, COO, MSDS, TDS and any certifications reach you from the manufacturer as well.
Free Samples and Lead Time
We send 100 to 500 g free for your own laboratory to test and you cover only the courier, usually within 2 to 3 working days. ETD is usually within 7 to 15 days once the order is confirmed, and we check that date against the factory's own manufacturing schedule before we give it to you.
Combined Shipment
We can load Cinnamyl Cinnamate together with other ingredients such as Capsicum Oleoresin, Ethyl Maltol and White Pepper into one 20' FCL. If your quantity is small, we can also ship LCL.
Regulatory Status
Cinnamyl Cinnamate is approved as a flavouring substance and fragrance ingredient in the major regulated markets.
In the United States it is FEMA 2298 and GRAS by FEMA. The FDA permits it under 21 CFR 172.515 for direct addition to food as a synthetic flavouring substance.
In the European Union it carries FL number 09.039 on the Union list of flavouring substances. JECFA has evaluated it as part of the cinnamyl alcohol related esters group and cleared it for flavour use.
The compound is subject to IFRA usage standards as a member of the cinnamic ester family and is treated as a potential allergen under the EU Cosmetics Regulation.
It is registered under REACH, listed on TSCA, and routinely comes with Halal and Kosher certificates.
Manufacturing Process
The dominant synthetic route is the acid-catalysed esterification of cinnamic acid with cinnamyl alcohol. The reaction is run with toluene-sulphonic acid or a solid acid catalyst at moderate temperature, with continuous removal of water by azeotropic distillation. After neutralisation and washing the crude ester is recrystallised from ethanol or methanol.
An alternative transesterification route starts from methyl cinnamate and cinnamyl alcohol with a tin or titanium catalyst, which avoids handling free cinnamic acid.
Natural-source material is obtained by crystallisation from styrax balsam exudate, where cinnamyl cinnamate makes up 30 to 40 percent of the resin and separates as the resin is cooled and washed.
Most product is finished as low-dust flakes or prills to make handling in fragrance compounding rooms easier and to keep oxidation in check.
