Peppermint Oil
Peppermint Oil is the steam-distilled essential oil of the aerial parts of Mentha piperita, a sterile hybrid between Mentha aquatica and Mentha spicata.
The oil is a clear, mobile liquid with a sharp, cooling odour driven by free menthol (35 to 55 percent), menthone, menthyl acetate, and 1,8-cineole. It is among the highest-volume essential oils produced worldwide.
We source bulk Peppermint Oil from top China manufacturers for our partners, working with several of them. The manufacturers are mostly in Anhui and Guangdong. For this ingredient the minimum order is 500 kg and a 20-foot container takes 14.4 MT, and a smaller requirement can ship in a combined container with other ingredients.
Please send the grade you need, the volume and your destination port, and we will come back with a solution and a price.

Common Markets Grades
Peppermint Oil is graded by botanical origin and chemotype rather than by a single assay value.
Native American oil, distilled in the Yakima Valley (Washington) and Madras (Indiana, Oregon), is prized for its balanced menthol-to-menthone ratio and is the reference grade for chewing gum and confectionery.
Indian oil (Uttar Pradesh, Punjab) dominates global supply by volume. Crude Indian oil typically assays 60 to 78 percent menthol and is often dementholized to recover crystalline menthol, leaving a co-product known as dementholized peppermint oil (DMO).
Chinese oil from Jiangsu and Anhui is generally higher in menthone and lower in menthol than American material.
Pharmacopoeial grades meeting USP, BP, Ph. Eur., or JP monographs are produced with full GC/MS fingerprint and chiral verification to detect adulteration with synthetic menthol or cornmint (Mentha arvensis) oil.

How We Help Source Peppermint Oil
Direct Factory Sourcing
We run the whole process: selecting the manufacturer from the top Chinese food ingredient producers, negotiating the price, verifying quality, and coordinating the logistics. You deal with us instead of with several factories at once.
Original Packaging and Documents from the Manufacturer
The manufacturer sends your Peppermint Oil out of its own factory in the original packing, through to your destination port. The COA, COO, MSDS, TDS and any certifications reach you from the manufacturer as well.
Free Samples and Lead Time
We send 100 to 500 g free for your own laboratory to test and you cover only the courier, usually within 2 to 3 working days. ETD is usually within 7 to 15 days once the order is confirmed, and we check that date against the factory's own manufacturing schedule before we give it to you.
Combined Shipment
We can load Peppermint Oil together with other ingredients such as Ginger Essential Oil, Star Anise Oil and Clove Oil into one 20' FCL. If your quantity is small, we can also ship LCL.
Regulatory Status
Peppermint Oil is recognised as a flavouring substance and traditional herbal medicine across all major jurisdictions.
In the United States 21 CFR 182.20 lists it as GRAS for use as a natural flavour.
The European Food Safety Authority classifies it under FL number 14.011 (peppermint oil) and acknowledges it as a natural flavouring complex.
Monographs appear in USP-NF, the European Pharmacopoeia, the British Pharmacopoeia, and the Japanese Pharmacopoeia. The European Medicines Agency has issued a Community herbal monograph supporting traditional use for symptomatic relief of digestive complaints and tension headaches.
The IFRA standard limits dermal application in leave-on cosmetics due to menthol content. Kosher, Halal, and organic (NOP, EU 2018/848) certifications are routinely available.
Manufacturing Process
Production begins with mowing the standing crop at early flowering, when menthol content peaks. The harvested herb is field-wilted for 24 to 48 hours to reduce moisture before distillation.
Steam distillation is carried out in large stainless-steel stills directly on the farm. Distillation cycles run 90 to 120 minutes, and the condensed oil is gravity-separated from the hydrosol.
Crude oil is then rectified under vacuum to remove dimethyl sulphide and other off-notes. Material destined for menthol recovery is chilled to crystallise free menthol, which is filtered and recrystallised to pharmaceutical purity.
The residual dementholized fraction is redistilled and standardised to flavour specifications.
Major producing regions include the U.S. Pacific Northwest, India, China, Egypt, Argentina, and Bulgaria.
