Trisodium Glycyrrhizinate
Trisodium Glycyrrhizinate is the fully neutralised sodium salt of glycyrrhizic acid, in which all three carboxyl groups carry sodium counter-ions.
It is the most water-soluble of the common glycyrrhizinate salts, dissolving readily in cold water to give a clear, slightly alkaline solution, which makes it the preferred form for clear beverages, aqueous oral-care products, and injectable hepatoprotective formulations in Japan.
We source bulk Trisodium Glycyrrhizinate from top China manufacturers for our partners. The manufacturer is in Qinghai. A smaller requirement can ship in a combined container with other ingredients.
Please send the grade you need, the volume and your destination port, and we will come back with a solution and a price.

Common Markets Grades
The trade sells Trisodium Glycyrrhizinate as a white to off-white fine powder at HPLC assays of 95 percent and 98 percent on a dry basis.
A food and beverage grade is the standard format for clear functional drinks, mouthwashes, and breath strips.
A pharmaceutical grade meeting the requirements of the Japanese Pharmacopoeia is produced for licensed hepatoprotective infusions, throat sprays, and topical ophthalmic preparations.
Sodium content is specified around 8 percent by mass, consistent with three sodium ions per glycyrrhizinate molecule. Sulfated ash, heavy metals, residual solvents, and microbiological purity are all controlled to pharmacopoeial limits.

How We Help Source Trisodium Glycyrrhizinate
Direct Factory Sourcing
We run the whole process: selecting the manufacturer from the top Chinese food ingredient producers, negotiating the price, verifying quality, and coordinating the logistics. You deal with us instead of with several factories at once.
Original Packaging and Documents from the Manufacturer
The manufacturer sends your Trisodium Glycyrrhizinate out of its own factory in the original packing, through to your destination port. The COA, COO, MSDS, TDS and any certifications reach you from the manufacturer as well.
Free Samples and Lead Time
We send 100 to 500 g free for your own laboratory to test and you cover only the courier, usually within 2 to 3 working days. ETD is usually within 7 to 15 days once the order is confirmed, and we check that date against the factory's own manufacturing schedule before we give it to you.
Combined Shipment
We can load Trisodium Glycyrrhizinate together with other ingredients such as Stevia, Erythritol and Maltitol into one 20' FCL. If your quantity is small, we can also ship LCL.
Regulatory Status
Trisodium Glycyrrhizinate is the form most often used in licensed Japanese pharmaceutical preparations for chronic hepatitis and topical skin conditions, where it appears under Japanese Pharmacopoeia monographs.
For food use, it falls under the same intake framework as other glycyrrhizinate salts. EFSA opinions on glycyrrhizin from 2024 reaffirm guidance to keep habitual intake below approximately 100 mg per day to avoid pseudoaldosteronism.
The United States Food and Drug Administration recognises licorice and its sodium derivatives as GRAS under 21 CFR 184.1408 with the same use-level limits as the parent acid.
The INCI name Trisodium Glycyrrhizinate is listed in cosmetic ingredient databases worldwide. Kosher and Halal certifications are routinely available.
Manufacturing Process
Trisodium Glycyrrhizinate is manufactured by complete neutralisation of glycyrrhizic acid with three molar equivalents of sodium hydroxide.
Free glycyrrhizic acid is first isolated from hot-water licorice extract by sulphuric acid precipitation and recrystallisation. The purified acid is suspended in water and dosed with sodium hydroxide until the pH stabilises between 8.0 and 9.0, the endpoint that corresponds to the fully neutralised tri-salt.
The clear solution is decolorised with activated carbon, polish-filtered, concentrated under vacuum, and spray-dried into a free-flowing powder.
For pharmaceutical grades, the spray-dried material is recrystallised from aqueous ethanol and tested against Japanese Pharmacopoeia monographs for assay, sodium content, heavy metals, residual solvents, and endotoxin.
