Anhui Huaheng Biotechnology Co.，Ltd.

Anhui Huaheng Biotechnology, which trades internationally as AHB, was founded in 2005 and built its first plant at Changfeng, north of Hefei in Anhui. It is a synthetic biology company whose output falls into three groups: amino acids including L-alanine, DL-alanine, beta-alanine, L-arginine, L-citrulline and L-carnosine; vitamins, principally calcium D-pantothenate; and bio-based intermediates and monomers.

Its technical position rests on fermentation. In 2010 the company industrialised a fermentation route to L-alanine, and in 2011 it ran what it describes as the world's first large-scale microbial anaerobic fermentation production of the amino acid, opening the Qinhuangdao site the same year. A strategic partnership with BASF followed in 2012 to develop L-alanine as a feedstock for the chelating agent MGDA. The company entered animal nutrition with the Bayannur site in 2019 and bio-based monomer materials with the Chifeng site in 2022.

AHB listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange STAR Market in 2021 under stock code 688639, and in the same year established AHB US LLC and a research centre in Hangzhou. It had invested in its own research institute in 2017 and has since built joint laboratories and industry alliances, including what it calls the first bio-based polyester textile industry alliance in 2024. Its stated sustainability programme, launched in 2024, sets targets of zero carbon dioxide emissions, zero waste and zero fossil energy. End markets are biomaterials, animal nutrition, personal care, plant nutrition and human nutrition and flavour.
