Manufacturing Process

L-Ornithine-L-Aspartate is manufactured by independent fermentation of each precursor followed by aqueous salt formation.

L-ornithine is produced by aerobic fermentation using engineered Corynebacterium glutamicum, with knockout of arginine biosynthesis pushing flux to ornithine accumulation. Broth titers above 50 g/L are routine on glucose or molasses feedstock.

L-aspartic acid is produced by enzymatic conversion of fumaric acid using immobilized Escherichia coli aspartase, a long-established industrial bioprocess that delivers near-quantitative yields and high optical purity.

The two amino acids are dissolved in deionized water in equimolar ratio, the solution is decolorised over activated carbon, concentrated under vacuum, and crystallised as the 1:1 salt. Crystals are filtered, washed with ethanol, vacuum-dried, milled to specification, and packed under nitrogen to limit moisture pickup.
