Magnesium Phosphate Dibasic
Magnesium Phosphate Dibasic, also called magnesium hydrogen phosphate, is the singly protonated magnesium salt of orthophosphoric acid, with formula MgHPO₄ and CAS number 7757-86-0.
It is most often encountered as the trihydrate, MgHPO₄·3H₂O, known in mineralogy as newberyite. The compound serves as a pharmaceutical excipient, mild antacid, and source of both magnesium and phosphorus in nutritional and dental applications.
We source bulk Magnesium Phosphate Dibasic from top China manufacturers for our partners. The manufacturer is in Jiangsu. A smaller requirement can ship in a combined container with other ingredients.
Please send the grade you need, the volume and your destination port, and we will come back with a solution and a price.

Common Markets Grades
Commercial supply is dominated by the trihydrate form, with anhydrous material available on request.
The pharmaceutical grade meets USP and Ph. Eur. specifications, with strict limits on heavy metals, fluoride, arsenic, and residual moisture variability. Particle size is controlled for tablet-binder and direct-compression performance.
Food-grade material complies with the Food Chemicals Codex monograph for magnesium phosphate, dibasic. Typical assay is 96 percent or higher on a dried basis.
Technical-grade material is produced for industrial buffering and as a precursor to other magnesium phosphate cements. A coarse granular grade serves the fertilizer and ceramic markets.
Applications
- Pharmaceutical tablet excipient, providing both binding and mild antacid action
- Dietary supplements as a combined magnesium and phosphorus source
- Antacid formulations, either alone or combined with aluminium and calcium salts
- Mineral fortification of dry food blends, including infant cereals and clinical nutrition products
- Dental cements and restorative materials based on magnesium phosphate chemistry
- Buffering agent in fermentation and tissue-culture media
- Flow agent and anticaking aid in dry-blend powder applications
- Specialty animal-feed premixes for cattle, swine, and poultry
- Component in slow-release fertilizer matrices for horticulture

How We Help Source Magnesium Phosphate Dibasic
Direct Factory Sourcing
We run the whole process: selecting the manufacturer from the top Chinese food ingredient producers, negotiating the price, verifying quality, and coordinating the logistics. You deal with us instead of with several factories at once.
Original Packaging and Documents from the Manufacturer
The manufacturer sends your Magnesium Phosphate Dibasic out of its own factory in the original packing, through to your destination port. The COA, COO, MSDS, TDS and any certifications reach you from the manufacturer as well.
Free Samples and Lead Time
We send 100 to 500 g free for your own laboratory to test and you cover only the courier, usually within 2 to 3 working days. ETD is usually within 7 to 15 days once the order is confirmed, and we check that date against the factory's own manufacturing schedule before we give it to you.
Combined Shipment
We can load Magnesium Phosphate Dibasic together with other ingredients such as Sodium Acetate, Calcium Citrate and Sodium Lactate into one 20' FCL. If your quantity is small, we can also ship LCL.
Regulatory Status
The compound is approved as a food additive and pharmaceutical excipient in the major regulated markets.
In the European Union Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008 lists it under E343ii as part of the magnesium phosphates family. Use is permitted in defined food categories with self-limiting quantum satis or specific maximum levels.
The United States Food and Drug Administration recognises the substance under 21 CFR 184.1434 as a GRAS food ingredient. Pharmaceutical use is supported by USP and National Formulary monographs.
The European Pharmacopoeia and the Japanese Pharmaceutical Excipients compendium both cover the trihydrate. Halal and Kosher certifications are routinely available from the principal manufacturers.
Manufacturing Process
The standard industrial route is a controlled neutralisation of phosphoric acid with a magnesium source.
Magnesium oxide, hydroxide, or carbonate is added to a dilute phosphoric acid solution at a molar ratio of one to one. Temperature is held in the 60 to 80 degrees Celsius range to favour the dibasic salt over the monobasic and tribasic species.
The reaction produces a milky suspension that thickens as crystallisation proceeds. Seed crystals of the trihydrate are often added to drive uniform crystal habit and to shorten crystallisation time.
The slurry is filtered or centrifuged, washed with cold water to remove residual soluble impurities, and dried under mild conditions to preserve the trihydrate water of crystallisation. Aggressive drying converts the salt to lower hydrates or the anhydrous form, both of which carry different bulk density and dissolution behaviour.
Major producers include Chemische Fabrik Budenheim in Germany, Innophos in the United States, and several Chinese phosphate specialists serving regional pharmaceutical and food markets.
