Arabinose

Arabinose is a five-carbon aldopentose sugar with the molecular formula C₅H₁₀O₅ and molar mass 150.13 g/mol.

It exists in two enantiomeric forms, L-arabinose and D-arabinose. The L-form is by far the more abundant in nature and is the commercially relevant species.

The crystalline powder is white, freely water-soluble, mildly sweet, and notable for its ability to selectively inhibit intestinal sucrase, the enzyme that cleaves sucrose to glucose and fructose. This action makes arabinose a sucrose absorption modulator used in sugar-blocker and glycemic-control supplements.

We source bulk Arabinose from top China manufacturers for our partners. The manufacturer is in Shandong. For this ingredient the minimum order is 200 kg, and a smaller requirement can ship in a combined container with other ingredients.

Please send the grade you need, the volume and your destination port, and we will come back with a solution and a price.

Common Markets Grades

Arabinose is produced mainly as the L-form in food and supplement grades.

Standard commercial grade declares 98 to 99 percent L-arabinose and is a white crystalline powder.

High-purity grade declares 99.5 percent or higher for premium supplement and clinical study use.

The D-form is produced at much smaller scale for biochemical research and as a chiral building block for nucleoside synthesis.

Bulk industrial grade is produced for fermentation and biotechnology use, where xylose-rich biomass hydrolysates are upgraded into pure pentose streams.

Applications

  • Sucrase-inhibitor ingredient in sucrose-blocking supplements
  • Glycemic-control supplement paired with chromium or berberine
  • Sugar-reduction component in functional sweet products
  • Substrate in microbial fermentation research
  • Building block in nucleoside and oligonucleotide synthesis
  • Chiral starting material in pharmaceutical chemistry
  • Carbohydrate marker in plant cell wall and polysaccharide analysis
  • Carbon source in yeast and bacterial growth media
  • Component of weight management and metabolic supplement blends
  • Sweet diluent in dietary supplement powders
  • Research substrate in xylose isomerase and pentose metabolism studies

Brands Using Arabinose

Widely-distributed consumer products that list Arabinose on the ingredient label.

Brand names, product names and logos are the property of their owners. They appear here as published evidence that the ingredient is used, taken from the brand's own label or website. Their appearance is not an endorsement, and it does not mean the brand buys from us or from any manufacturer listed on this site.

China Manufacturers of Arabinose

How We Help Source Arabinose

  • Direct Factory Sourcing

We run the whole process: selecting the manufacturer from the top Chinese food ingredient producers, negotiating the price, verifying quality, and coordinating the logistics. You deal with us instead of with several factories at once.

  • Original Packaging and Documents from the Manufacturer

The manufacturer sends your Arabinose out of its own factory in the original packing, through to your destination port. The COA, COO, MSDS, TDS and any certifications reach you from the manufacturer as well.

  • Free Samples and Lead Time

We send 100 to 500 g free for your own laboratory to test and you cover only the courier, usually within 2 to 3 working days. ETD is usually within 7 to 15 days once the order is confirmed, and we check that date against the factory's own manufacturing schedule before we give it to you.

  • Combined Shipment

We can load Arabinose together with other ingredients such as Fructooligosaccharides, Dextrose and Dextrose Monohydrate into one 20' FCL. If your quantity is small, we can also ship LCL.

Regulatory Status

Arabinose is recognised as a food and dietary supplement ingredient in most major markets, generally without an E number.

The U.S. FDA accepts L-arabinose as a self-affirmed GRAS ingredient (GRN 000354 and similar) for use in foods at functional levels.

EFSA has reviewed L-arabinose for food use. China lists L-arabinose as a permitted novel food ingredient.

Japan recognises L-arabinose under the Foods for Specified Health Use framework for sugar absorption modulation claims.

Manufacturing Process

Arabinose is produced by hydrolysis of arabinose-rich plant polysaccharides.

Sugar beet pulp, corn fibre, and gum arabic are the principal industrial sources. The arabinan or arabinoxylan in the plant material is hydrolysed under mild acid or with arabinofuranosidase enzymes to release free arabinose.

The crude hydrolysate is purified by carbon treatment, ion exchange, and chromatographic separation from glucose, xylose, and other accompanying sugars.

The purified arabinose solution is concentrated and crystallised.

The crystals are washed, dried, and milled to the target particle profile.
