L-Arabinose

L-Arabinose is the natural L-enantiomer of the five-carbon aldopentose sugar arabinose.

The molecular formula is C₅H₁₀O₅ with molar mass 150.13 g/mol. The L-designation refers to its levorotatory optical configuration at the highest-numbered chiral centre, which is the natural configuration in plant arabinan and arabinoxylan.

The crystalline powder is white, freely water-soluble, mildly sweet, and known for its selective inhibition of intestinal sucrase, which blocks the cleavage of dietary sucrose and reduces postprandial blood glucose response.

We source bulk L-Arabinose from top China manufacturers for our partners, working with several of them. The manufacturers are in Shandong, Henan and Zhejiang. For this ingredient the minimum order is 200 kg, and a smaller requirement can ship in a combined container with other ingredients.

Please send the grade you need, the volume and your destination port, and we will come back with a solution and a price.

Common Markets Grades

L-Arabinose comes in four grades: food supplement, high purity, pharmaceutical, and bulk industrial.

Food supplement grade declares 98 to 99 percent L-arabinose, sold as a free-flowing white crystalline powder.

High-purity grade declares 99.5 percent or higher for premium supplement use and for clinical study material.

Pharmaceutical-style grade meets tight specifications on residual D-arabinose, heavy metals, and microbial counts for clinical and reference applications.

Bulk industrial grade serves fermentation and biotechnology research, often packed in 25 kg sacks.

Applications

  • Active ingredient in sucrose-blocker supplements paired with sugar consumption
  • Glycemic-management component in weight loss and metabolic supplement blends
  • Sugar absorption modulator in low-glycemic functional beverages
  • Diabetic-friendly sweetening adjunct in confectionery and bakery
  • Active in postprandial glucose-management capsules and stick packs
  • Component of sugar-management functional foods in Asia
  • Reference material in clinical glucose-response studies
  • Substrate in microbial fermentation and pentose-utilisation research
  • Sweet diluent in supplement powders
  • Cofactor research substance in carbohydrate enzymology
  • Component of metabolic health and pre-diabetes management blends

China Manufacturers of L-Arabinose

How We Help Source L-Arabinose

  • Direct Factory Sourcing

We run the whole process: selecting the manufacturer from the top Chinese food ingredient producers, negotiating the price, verifying quality, and coordinating the logistics. You deal with us instead of with several factories at once.

  • Original Packaging and Documents from the Manufacturer

The manufacturer sends your L-Arabinose out of its own factory in the original packing, through to your destination port. The COA, COO, MSDS, TDS and any certifications reach you from the manufacturer as well.

  • Free Samples and Lead Time

We send 100 to 500 g free for your own laboratory to test and you cover only the courier, usually within 2 to 3 working days. ETD is usually within 7 to 15 days once the order is confirmed, and we check that date against the factory's own manufacturing schedule before we give it to you.

  • Combined Shipment

We can load L-Arabinose together with other ingredients such as Fructooligosaccharides, Dextrose and Dextrose Monohydrate into one 20' FCL. If your quantity is small, we can also ship LCL.

Regulatory Status

L-Arabinose is recognised as a food and supplement ingredient in most major markets without an E number.

The U.S. FDA accepts L-arabinose as a self-affirmed GRAS ingredient with GRN notifications including GRN 000354 for use in foods at functional intake levels.

China lists L-arabinose as a permitted novel food ingredient under the Ministry of Health framework. The European Union accepts L-arabinose as a food ingredient given its natural presence in foods.

Japan recognises L-arabinose under the Foods for Specified Health Use framework for sugar absorption modulation claims.

Manufacturing Process

L-Arabinose is produced from arabinose-rich plant polysaccharides through hydrolysis and chromatographic purification.

Sugar beet pulp and corn fibre are the dominant industrial feedstocks. The arabinan and arabinoxylan components of these materials carry L-arabinose as the bulk sugar.

The plant material is hydrolysed with dilute acid or with specific arabinofuranosidase enzymes to release free L-arabinose without significant racemization.

The hydrolysate is purified through activated carbon, ion-exchange demineralization, and chromatographic separation from accompanying glucose, xylose, and other sugars.

The purified solution is concentrated and crystallised as L-arabinose. The crystals are washed, dried, and packed.
