Fucoidan
Fucoidan is a family of sulfated polysaccharides built around an L-fucose backbone with attached sulphate ester, glucuronic acid, mannose, galactose, and xylose residues. The polymer is found in the cell walls of brown seaweeds, where it acts as a structural and protective component.
Commercial fucoidan is extracted mainly from Undaria pinnatifida, Fucus vesiculosus, and Laminaria japonica. Each source produces a distinct sulfation pattern and biological activity profile.
We source bulk Fucoidan from top China manufacturers for our partners, working with several of them. The manufacturers are in Shandong and Jiangsu. A smaller requirement can ship in a combined container with other ingredients.
Please send the grade you need, the volume and your destination port, and we will come back with a solution and a price.

Common Markets Grades
Fucoidan is graded by purity, species of origin, and molecular weight.
Standard food-grade fucoidan ranges from 60 to 85 percent purity on a dry basis, with the balance being co-extracted alginate, mannitol, and salt.
High-purity supplement grades reach 90 to 95 percent purity after additional precipitation, ion-exchange, and ultrafiltration steps. Pharmaceutical research grades exceed 95 percent and are characterised by detailed structural NMR.
Molecular weight ranges from low (under 20 kDa) for systemic supplements to high (above 100 kDa) for topical and immune-modulation applications. Sulphate content is the secondary chemical specification, typically 25 to 40 percent on a dry basis.
Wakame-source (Undaria) and bladderwrack-source (Fucus) fucoidans are sold under separate trade names because their pharmacology differs.

How We Help Source Fucoidan
Direct Factory Sourcing
We run the whole process: selecting the manufacturer from the top Chinese food ingredient producers, negotiating the price, verifying quality, and coordinating the logistics. You deal with us instead of with several factories at once.
Original Packaging and Documents from the Manufacturer
The manufacturer sends your Fucoidan out of its own factory in the original packing, through to your destination port. The COA, COO, MSDS, TDS and any certifications reach you from the manufacturer as well.
Free Samples and Lead Time
We send 100 to 500 g free for your own laboratory to test and you cover only the courier, usually within 2 to 3 working days. ETD is usually within 7 to 15 days once the order is confirmed, and we check that date against the factory's own manufacturing schedule before we give it to you.
Combined Shipment
We can load Fucoidan together with other ingredients such as Citrus Fibre, Xylo-oligosaccharide and Inulin into one 20' FCL. If your quantity is small, we can also ship LCL.
Regulatory Status
Fucoidan regulatory status varies by jurisdiction and source.
The U.S. FDA accepts Undaria pinnatifida fucoidan extract under multiple GRAS notifications (GRN 661 and later filings) at defined use levels in beverages, dairy, and supplements.
The European Union treats fucoidan as a novel food ingredient requiring authorisation under Regulation (EU) 2015/2283. Two Fucus vesiculosus and Undaria pinnatifida applications have completed safety evaluations.
Australia's TGA lists fucoidan as a permitted ingredient in complementary medicines, and Korean and Japanese regulators recognise it within their functional-food frameworks.
Halal and Kosher certifications are routinely available, and the substance is naturally suitable for vegan, vegetarian, and pescetarian positioning depending on the labelling convention.
Manufacturing Process
Fucoidan production is anchored in Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, and the Atlantic coast of Canada and Ireland, mirroring the harvest of the parent seaweeds.
Fresh or dried seaweed is washed, milled, and pre-treated with ethanol or dilute acid to remove pigments, lipids, and free mannitol.
The pre-treated biomass is extracted in hot dilute acid or in calcium chloride solution, which selectively pulls fucoidan into solution while leaving most of the alginate behind. The extract is clarified by filtration or centrifugation.
Selective precipitation with ethanol or quaternary ammonium salts isolates the fucoidan fraction. Further purification uses ion exchange, ultrafiltration, and chromatography to remove residual alginate, laminarin, protein, and salt.
The purified solution is concentrated and spray-dried. Molecular weight is fine-tuned by controlled mild acid or enzymatic hydrolysis where lower MW grades are required.
