Citrus Fibre
Citrus Fibre is a functional ingredient produced from the peel, pulp, and segment membranes left over after orange, lemon, lime, or grapefruit juice extraction. The raw biomass is washed, depectinised in part, and dried to a free-flowing powder.
The finished material is roughly 70 percent total dietary fibre, with the balance made up of native pectin, protein, and minor amounts of sugar and oil. The structure delivers high water binding, oil binding, and emulsion stabilisation in a single clean-label ingredient.
We source bulk Citrus Fibre from top China manufacturers for our partners, working with several of them. The manufacturers are mostly in Anhui, Guangdong and Hebei. A smaller requirement can ship in a combined container with other ingredients.

Common Markets Grades
Citrus fibre is graded by activation level and particle size.
Non-activated grades retain most of the native cellular structure and act as a bulking fibre for bakery and meat applications.
Activated grades are subjected to high-shear wet mechanical treatment that opens the cell walls and exposes the internal pectin network. These grades deliver up to 25 times their weight in water binding and form stable emulsions at 0.3 to 1 percent dosage.
Particle sizes range from 50 micron fine powders for beverages and dairy to 250 micron coarse grades for meat and bakery.
Premium organic and demethylated grades are produced for specific dairy alternative and plant-based meat applications.
Applications
- Plant-based meat patties, sausages, and nuggets for juiciness and bite
- Dairy: yogurt, fresh cheese, and processed cheese for body and syneresis control
- Sauces, dressings, ketchup, and mayonnaise as a clean-label egg-yolk replacer
- Bakery: bread, muffins, cakes, and tortillas for moisture retention and softness
- Beverages and smoothies for cloud stability and fibre fortification
- Frozen desserts and ice cream as a fat replacer and ice-crystal controller
- Confectionery: gummies and fruit fillings as a pectin extender
- Meat emulsions: frankfurters, bologna, and pâtés for fat-binding and cook yield
- Soups, broths, and gravies for body
- Gluten-free bakery for crumb structure and shelf life

How We Help Source Citrus Fibre
Direct Factory Sourcing
We run the whole process: selecting the manufacturer from the top Chinese food ingredient producers, negotiating the price, verifying quality, and coordinating the logistics. You deal with us instead of with several factories at once.
Original Packaging and Documents from the Manufacturer
The manufacturer sends your Citrus Fibre out of its own factory in the original packing, through to your destination port. The COA, COO, MSDS, TDS and any certifications reach you from the manufacturer as well.
Free Samples and Lead Time
We send 100 to 500 g free for your own laboratory to test and you cover only the courier, usually within 2 to 3 working days. ETD is usually within 7 to 15 days once the order is confirmed, and we check that date against the factory's own manufacturing schedule before we give it to you.
Combined Shipment
We can load Citrus Fibre together with other ingredients such as Xylo-oligosaccharide, Inulin and Soy Dietary Fibre into one 20' FCL. If your quantity is small, we can also ship LCL.
Regulatory Status
Citrus fibre is classified as a food ingredient rather than a food additive in most jurisdictions.
In the European Union it is declared as citrus fibre or dried citrus pulp on the ingredient list without an E number. EFSA recognises it as a source of dietary fibre under Regulation (EU) No 1924/2006 nutrition claims.
The U.S. FDA accepts citrus fibre as a dietary fibre for Nutrition Facts labelling following the 2018 reaffirmation of naturally-occurring intact plant fibres.
Multiple manufacturers have filed GRAS notifications covering specific activated grades. Halal, Kosher, organic, and non-GMO certifications are routinely available.
Manufacturing Process
Citrus fibre is recovered from juice-processing co-products. The world's main production hubs are in Brazil, Florida, Spain, Italy, and Mexico, co-located with the juice plants.
Wet peel arrives at the fibre plant within hours of juice pressing. It is washed with hot water to remove residual sugars, citric acid, and essential oils, then dewatered.
For activated grades the dewatered cake is subjected to high-shear mechanical homogenisation in water, which mechanically disrupts the cell walls and frees the pectin network without chemical or enzymatic treatment.
The resulting slurry is dried by drum, spray, or refractance-window drying depending on the target particle size and bulk density. The dried fibre is milled, sieved, and blended to specification.
The process is fully mechanical for clean-label grades, which avoids solvent or acid steps and allows non-additive declarations on finished food labels.
