Low GI Maltodextrin
Low Gi Maltodextrin is a class of slow-release glucose polymers engineered to give sustained energy delivery and a lower glycemic response than ordinary maltodextrin.
The best known representative is highly branched cyclic dextrin (HBCD), marketed under names such as Cluster Dextrin, but the class also includes specialty linear glucose polymers with elevated α-1,6 branching density.
The powder is neutral in taste, fully soluble, and gives a low-osmolality solution, which is its key advantage for sports nutrition where rapid gastric emptying is required without an early glucose spike.
We source bulk Low GI Maltodextrin from top China manufacturers for our partners. The manufacturer is in Hebei. A smaller requirement can ship in a combined container with other ingredients.
Please send the grade you need, the volume and your destination port, and we will come back with a solution and a price.

Common Markets Grades
Low Gi Maltodextrin is graded by molecular weight distribution and branching architecture.
HBCD-type grades carry a weight-average molecular weight in the 160,000 to 500,000 Da range and a tight cyclic structure produced by branching enzyme action.
Linear slow-release grades sit at lower molecular weight (10,000 to 100,000 Da) with engineered branching achieved through enzymatic remodeling of standard maltodextrin.
Pharmaceutical-style grades meet tighter heavy-metal and microbial limits for medical nutrition use.
Sports-grade is the dominant commercial category, packaged for direct stick-pack and bulk-tub use with rapid wettability.

How We Help Source Low GI Maltodextrin
Direct Factory Sourcing
We run the whole process: selecting the manufacturer from the top Chinese food ingredient producers, negotiating the price, verifying quality, and coordinating the logistics. You deal with us instead of with several factories at once.
Original Packaging and Documents from the Manufacturer
The manufacturer sends your Low GI Maltodextrin out of its own factory in the original packing, through to your destination port. The COA, COO, MSDS, TDS and any certifications reach you from the manufacturer as well.
Free Samples and Lead Time
We send 100 to 500 g free for your own laboratory to test and you cover only the courier, usually within 2 to 3 working days. ETD is usually within 7 to 15 days once the order is confirmed, and we check that date against the factory's own manufacturing schedule before we give it to you.
Combined Shipment
We can load Low GI Maltodextrin together with other ingredients such as Fructooligosaccharides, Dextrose and Dextrose Monohydrate into one 20' FCL. If your quantity is small, we can also ship LCL.
Regulatory Status
Low Gi Maltodextrin and HBCD are recognised as starch derivatives and do not carry an additive E number.
In the U.S., the leading HBCD ingredient (Cluster Dextrin) holds GRAS notification status. The base maltodextrin GRAS coverage applies to linear slow-release variants.
The Japanese functional food framework recognises HBCD as a slow-release carbohydrate suitable for endurance products.
Allergen-free, non-GMO, kosher, and halal certifications are commonly held by the major manufacturers.
Manufacturing Process
Low Gi Maltodextrin is produced from food starch through a two-step enzymatic process.
Starch is first liquefied with α-amylase to a low-DE backbone. A branching enzyme (1,4-α-glucan branching enzyme, often from Bacillus species) then reorganizes the glucan chains by transferring α-1,4 segments to α-1,6 positions.
For HBCD, the branching enzyme reaction is driven until cyclic high-molecular-weight clusters dominate. The reaction mass is purified by chromatography to remove residual low-molecular-weight sugars.
The purified solution is decolorised, demineralized, concentrated, and spray-dried into a fine white powder with low hygroscopicity.
