Vitamin D3 500 Feed Grade is an oil-based concentrate of cholecalciferol standardised to 500,000 IU per gram, intended for direct injection into liquid feed lines, molasses blends, and on-farm dosing systems.
Unlike the cold-water-soluble beadlet of the same potency, this format keeps the active in its native lipid-soluble state. Carriers are typically refined soybean, corn, or rapeseed oil with a mixed antioxidant package.

The carrier oil is selected for cold-pour behaviour, viscosity at metering temperature, and downstream label claims. Soybean oil is the volume default; MCT or rapeseed are used where lower viscosity at refrigerated handling is needed.
Stabiliser choice tracks regional regulation. BHT and BHA are common in feed-grade oils, with mixed tocopherols where an antioxidant-source declaration is preferred.

Regulatory Status
Cholecalciferol oil concentrates are listed in EU Regulation 2017/1492 as authorised feed additives for all animal species. The U.S. FDA covers feed-grade D3 under 21 CFR 573.780.
Maximum inclusion limits are set per target species and per regulator. Records of antioxidant identity and residual carrier-oil quality are required for FAMI-QS and GMP+ certified supply chains.
Documentation typically includes potency by HPLC, peroxide value, acid value, residual solvent, and heavy metals. Non-GMO and IP-soy carriers exist on request.
Manufacturing Process
Crude cholecalciferol resin from lanolin-derived 7-dehydrocholesterol is dissolved into a deodorised vegetable oil carrier under inert atmosphere. The blend is mixed with the chosen antioxidant package and held at moderate temperature until the active is fully solvated.
The concentrate is sampled for HPLC assay, adjusted to label potency with additional carrier oil, then filtered and packed under nitrogen blanket into lined steel drums or food-grade IBCs. Headspace oxygen is purged because D3 in free-oil solution is more vulnerable to oxidation than in an encapsulated bead.
Cold-handling specifications matter: the oil must remain pumpable at the lowest expected ambient temperature at the customer site, which sets the minimum unsaturation profile of the carrier.
